How to Get More Google Reviews (and Respond to Them)
Google reviews build trust and boost local ranking. How to get more reviews and respond to them well, for Philippine businesses. By GBGCoders.
Google reviews are one of the most powerful — and most underused — tools a local business has. They influence both your ranking in local search and whether customers choose you over a competitor. More good reviews, handled well, quietly bring in more business.
Why reviews matter so much:
- They build trust. Most people read reviews before choosing a business, and a healthy number of positive ones is reassuring.
- They affect ranking. Google favors businesses with more and better reviews in local results and on Maps.
- They give you feedback. Reviews tell you what customers value and where you can improve.
How to get more reviews:
- Just ask. Most happy customers will leave a review if you simply ask — many never think to on their own. Ask right after a good experience, when satisfaction is highest.
- Make it easy. Share a direct link to your review page via Messenger, SMS, or a QR code in your shop. The fewer steps, the more reviews.
- Build it into your routine. Add a friendly review request to your follow-up message, receipt, or after-service thank-you.
- Never buy fake reviews. They violate Google's rules, risk your listing, and customers can often tell. Genuine reviews are the only ones worth having.
Responding to reviews matters as much as getting them:
- Reply to positive reviews with a short, warm thank-you. It shows you are attentive and appreciative.
- Reply to negative reviews calmly and professionally. Do not argue. Acknowledge the concern, apologize where appropriate, and offer to make it right. A graceful response to criticism often impresses future customers more than a perfect record would.
- Reply reasonably promptly. Active engagement signals a business that cares.
A few realistic expectations: the occasional negative review is normal and even adds credibility (an all-five-star page can look suspicious). What matters is the overall pattern and how you handle problems.
Reviews compound over time. A steady habit of asking and responding builds a strong, trustworthy profile that keeps working for you.
